Diljit Dosanjh, a famous Punjabi singer and actor, met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on New Year’s Day. While Diljit thought it was a great way to start the year, many farmers were unhappy about it. They were upset because Diljit had supported their protest earlier, and now they were unsure if he still cared about their cause after meeting the prime minister.

In 2020, Diljit Dosanjh had joined the farmers' protest at the Singhu border and urged the government to meet the farmers' demands. Farmer leaders feel that his meeting with PM Modi goes against his earlier support for the movement.

Farmer leader criticises Diljit Dosanjh’s actions

A farmer leader at the Shambu border said, "If Diljit truly cared about farmers, he would have come and joined us in solidarity with Dallewal Ji at the Sambhu Border, listened to our concerns, and stood by his earlier statements." They also said the meeting raised doubts about his intentions.

Meanwhile, Jagjit Dallewal, a prominent farmer leader, has been on a hunger strike for 38 days to demand the legalisation of Minimum Support Price (MSP). Thousands of farmers are supporting his protest at the Khanauri site.

Diljit shared a post of his meeting with PM Modi on Instagram, where the Prime Minister praised him as "truly multifaceted." This was Diljit’s first meeting with the prime minister.
