A self-claimed godman from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district of Maharashtra, named Sanjay Pagare has been accused of abusing his followers while pretending to offer spiritual healing. Pagare ran a temple in Shiur village, Vaijapur tehsil, and claimed to have supernatural powers. He told people he could remove evil spirits, help couples have children, and even fix marriages using strange “aghori” rituals. But instead of helping, he carried out cruel and shameful acts in the name of treatment.
The truth came out after activists from an anti-superstition group secretly recorded his actions using hidden cameras during a sting operation. The videos show disturbing scenes where both men and women were beaten with sticks, forced to put their own shoes in their mouths, made to run around the temple, and even eat tree leaves. In one of the most shocking incidents, he made his followers drink his urine, saying it was a holy remedy.
One clip shows Pagare stepping on a man's face, throwing yellow powder on him, and forcing him to smell a shoe while beating a drum. The man looked weak and had to be helped to stand. Another video shows the fake baba hitting women and men with a stick, claiming it was part of a cleansing process.
This cruelty had reportedly been going on for two years. After the sting, a police complaint was filed and an FIR was registered against Sanjay Pagare. He has been booked under several sections of the Indian Penal Code, including fraud, assault, and promoting superstition.
