An acid attack case from Delhi has taken a dramatic turn after police revealed that the attack on a 20-year-old Delhi University student was staged by her own father. The incident, which was initially reported as a brutal assault against the young woman by three men on a motorcycle, has now been confirmed as a part of a revenge plot linked to a long-standing family feud involving rape, property disputes, and blackmail.

How the incident began

On Sunday, the DU School of Open Learning student claimed that three men on a bike threw acid on her while she was on her way to college. She suffered burn injuries on her hand and was admitted to RML Hospital. The seriousness of her allegations prompted immediate police action.

However, when the police examined CCTV footage and questioned the victim, they found several inconsistencies. No acid traces were found at the scene, and doctors were reviewing whether her injuries matched a real acid attack.

Father confesses 

By Monday, the police announced a dramatic update: The student’s father confessed that he orchestrated the entire incident. He reportedly attacked his daughter himself using a strong toilet cleaner. Later, her brother dropped her near the college to make the incident appear genuine.

Police said the father planned the fake attack to falsely implicate three men with whom he had serious personal disputes. During interrogation, he also confessed to having raped the wife of one of the men earlier, and blackmailing her using objectionable photos and videos.

Two days before the staged attack, that same woman had filed a rape and blackmail case against him , which became a key trigger for his revenge plan.

Disputes behind the plot

Investigators found that the father was also fighting a property case with the families of the other two accused men. Police records show that in 2018, the student’s family had even attacked their disputed relative’s mother using acid.

To avoid arrest in the rape complaint, the father initially sent his lawyer and an Islamic preacher to appear before the police and later went into hiding. He was finally arrested from Sangam Vihar late Monday.

CCTV footage showed that the woman had left her home on a two-wheeler with her brother, who dropped her near Ashok Vihar, after which she took an e-rickshaw to college. No sign of the accused men was found in the visuals.

Further investigation through call records and mobile location tracking confirmed that the man accused of stalking her was actually in Karol Bagh at the time of the alleged attack, while the other two men were in Agra with their mother. All three were found to be innocent as their statements aligned completely with the evidence collected by the police.

Current Status 

Police are now investigating why the student agreed to be part of the false story and why her brother helped in creating the fake crime scene. Her father has been arrested for rape, blackmail, and conspiracy. The woman’s injuries are being medically examined to confirm the chemical used,  which is believed to be a toilet cleaner and not acid.

Authorities have called the incident a serious misuse of the law, especially when real acid attack survivors struggle for justice. More arrests or charges are expected as police continue probing the family’s motives and involvement.
