A shocking incident took place at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel District Hospital in Satna, Madhya Pradesh, where a 72-year-old woman was forced to hold a drip bottle for her injured grandson for nearly half an hour. The ordeal happened on Friday after hospital staff failed to provide a drip stand.
The patient, 35-year-old Ashwani Mishra, had been brought in from Maihar following a road accident. Despite his serious condition, hospital staff did not arrange a stand, and his elderly grandmother had to keep the bottle raised in her hands while medical staff stood by without helping.
Eyewitnesses said that drip stands were available in the hospital but were not provided due to staff negligence. People present at the hospital described the scene as heartbreaking, as the old woman trembled while holding the bottle but remained determined to keep the medicine flowing for her grandson. The sight left many bystanders angry and upset.
The situation became worse because of the poor condition of the ambulance that transported Mishra. After dropping him at the hospital gate, the vehicle broke down and had to be pushed away by locals to get it started again.
This case adds to ongoing complaints about the hospital’s poor infrastructure and lack of basic facilities. Locals have often accused the hospital of not providing stretchers, beds, and timely care, even though it handles hundreds of patients every day.
Civil Surgeon Manoj Shukla, however, dismissed the issue, saying, “There is no shortage of stands. The patient was brought in an ambulance, and within 5-7 minutes treatment was provided. The grandmother herself picked up the drip, but the patient has been treated properly.”
