The Delhi Transport Department has announced that it will soon take strict action against vehicles that don’t have colour-coded stickers showing their fuel type. These stickers are meant to be placed on the front windshield and are part of the High-Security Registration Plate (HSRP) system.

According to officials, vehicles without these stickers will face fines under the Motor Vehicles Act. The rule about using these colour-coded stickers was first introduced in 2012-13 and made mandatory for all vehicles by 2019.

In a notice issued on Sunday, the department said that not having the sticker is a violation of the law and will be punished under Section 192(1) of the Motor Vehicles Act. This section deals with penalties for using an unregistered vehicle or not following registration rules.

The transport department has advised all vehicle owners to follow the sticker rule strictly. In 2020, the department had already started a special drive to check if vehicles had High-Security Registration Plates (HSRP) and the correct stickers. Vehicles found without them were fined ₹5,000. As per the rules:

Diesel vehicles should have orange stickers

Petrol and CNG vehicles should have light blue stickers.

Other types of vehicles should have grey stickers.

Now, officials have warned that vehicles without proper stickers may also be denied a Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate, which is mandatory for driving on Indian roads. The transport department has urged all vehicle owners to get their stickers updated without delay to avoid penalties and ensure smooth renewal of pollution and registration documents.
