A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) officer named Moti Ram Jat has been arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for allegedly sharing secret information with people believed to be spies from Pakistan. These individuals pretended to be journalists from an Indian TV news channel.

According to a report by The Indian Express, the trouble began when a woman contacted Jat. She told him she was a journalist from Chandigarh, working with a well-known TV channel. She asked him for information. After chatting through messages, phone calls, and even video calls, Jat allegedly began sending her important documents.

Later, a man pretending to be another journalist from the same news channel also contacted him. This man was actually a Pakistani intelligence officer, the report said.

The officer reportedly received ₹3,500 each month from these spies. He also got an extra ₹12,000 when he shared very important information. The NIA says Jat gave them sensitive details like:

  • Where CRPF soldiers were posted
  • The number of soldiers at different places
  • Which tourist spots were closed after an attack
  • Details about Union Home Minister Amit Shah's visit to Jammu and Kashmir

He was posted in Pahalgam with a CRPF battalion and was moved to Delhi just five days before a major attack on tourists happened.

A source inside the CRPF told The Indian Express that Jat was first contacted by the woman posing as a reporter. After that, the Pakistani officer started talking to him, too.

"After some messages and phone calls, including over video, Jat allegedly started sharing classified documents with her. After 2-3 months, a man, a Pakistan intelligence officer, started talking to him, posing as a journalist of the same news channel," the source added.

The NIA is still investigating how much information was leaked and what effect it may have had.
