In Karnataka’s Gadag district, a Hindu man named Vishal Gokavi has accused his Muslim wife, Tehsin Hosamani, and her family of pressuring him to convert to Islam after their marriage. Vishal and Tehsin were in a relationship for three years before getting legally married under the Special Marriage Act on November 26, 2024. According to Vishal, another wedding ceremony was held on April 25, 2025, following Islamic traditions, during which he was allegedly forced to convert to Islam without fully understanding or agreeing to it.
In several video statements, Vishal claimed that Tehsin and her family threatened to file a false rape case against him if he refused to convert. He also said he was mentally harassed and pressured into offering Islamic prayers, even being asked to send photos as proof. “I was in love with a Muslim girl, and we were together for three years. When her family found out, she told me I had to marry her or she would harm herself. She kept giving me such threats,” Vishal said.
He also alleged that her uncle and mother instructed her to make him convert and attend religious gatherings. “She passed that message on to me,” he said. When Vishal refused to marry her according to Islamic customs, he said members of the Jamaat group began putting pressure on him. He claimed that several people asked him to give up his own community and accept Islam. “They threatened me with a fake rape case and kept warning me. Eventually, I was forced to convert,” he said.
Vishal further said that Tehsin’s uncle was sent to check if he was praying regularly. “I was asked to take pictures of myself praying and send them to her. She would then follow up and ask, ‘Did you offer namaz today?’” he added.A video of the Islamic wedding has gone viral on social media. Several Hindu groups have reacted strongly, calling it a case of "Love Jihad" and are demanding legal action against Tehsin and her family.
Meanwhile, Gadag’s Superintendent of Police, Rohan Jagadish, said no official complaint has been filed in the matter so far. He confirmed that the couple had been in a relationship for three years and legally married in November 2024 under the Special Marriage Act. Later, they also had a traditional Islamic wedding, a video of which surfaced online.
The SP added that Vishal was called to Betageri police station on May 23, 2025. At that time, he gave both a written statement and a video saying that he had no complaint. Police said they are now trying to understand if any issues in the marriage led to these developments. SP Jagadish said, “We asked Vishal if he wanted to file a complaint. If he submits one, we will register it and take necessary action.”
