Three people had a close call when their car fell into a canal in Uttar Pradesh. They were using Google Maps to follow directions but ended up on a damaged road that had been washed away.

The incident took place on the Bareilly-Pilibhit state highway near the Kalapur canal in Barkapur village. Divyanshu Singh, from Auraiya, was travelling in a sedan with two others. Their car overturned because the road at that spot was damaged and eroded.

Quick rescue efforts

Emergency services quickly reached the scene after the accident. "Our response team arrived at the spot within a few minutes of the accident. Fortunately, no one sustained a major injury. Their car was taken out of the canal with the help of a crane. The victims were on their way to Pilibhit using Google Maps," a police officer said.

This accident comes shortly after a tragic incident in Bareilly on November 24, where three people died when their vehicle, also guided by Google Maps, fell from an incomplete flyover into the Ramganga River. Authorities are urging drivers to verify road conditions before relying solely on navigation apps.

Another tragedy due to GPS directions in Uttar Pradesh

Three people lost their lives after their car fell into the Ramganga River in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh. The accident occurred when they were misled by Google Maps to an under-construction bridge.

The victims, identified as Vivek and Amit, along with one other person, were travelling from Gurugram to Bareilly to attend a wedding. They relied on GPS navigation for directions but were unknowingly guided to an incomplete flyover. The car plunged into the river, leading to their untimely deaths. The damaged car was spotted by locals the following morning. They immediately informed the police, who arrived at the scene to recover the vehicle and the bodies.

“At 9:30 am today, a damaged car was found on the river Ramganga. Police were informed and arrived at the spot. When the police arrived, they saw a Waggon R, which was possibly hired as a taxi, on the river. The car went to the incomplete bridge and fell into a river from there,” police stated.
