To strengthen India’s defence against modern warfare, the Border Security Force (BSF) has completed the training of its first batch of drone warriors at the country’s first School of Drone Warfare. Located at the BSF Officers’ Academy in Tekanpur, near Gwalior, the facility is operating in mission mode to enhance the nation’s readiness against emerging aerial threats.
A total of 42 officers, known as drone warriors, are expected to graduate soon after completing the first training program at India’s first School of Drone Warfare. These trained officers will now play a key role in teaching and guiding other BSF personnel across different units, spreading their knowledge of drone operations and tactics.
The school is located at the BSF Officers’ Academy in Tekanpur, near Gwalior, and was inaugurated on September 2 by BSF Director General Daljit Chawdhary. The facility is equipped with advanced technology to support real-life training, including drone simulators, live flying zones, night operation facilities, RF jammers, kinetic interceptors, payload integration systems, and AI tools. The school received an initial funding of Rs 20 crore and aims to train up to 500 drone commandos each year in 10 to 12 batches.
The creation of this school comes after Operation Sindoor, which highlighted the growing importance of drones in national security. Recognising this, the BSF established the School of Drone Warfare to equip its personnel with modern skills in drone operations, surveillance, reconnaissance, jamming technologies, and AI-based tracking of enemy drones.
Currently, another batch of drone commandos is undergoing an intensive eight-week training program at the facility. The BSF’s push toward drone warfare marks a strategic shift in its operations. By enhancing its capabilities against unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), the force is preparing itself to counter emerging threats in border areas and complex terrains.
This initiative shows how the BSF is modernising its forces to meet the challenges of contemporary warfare. With trained drone warriors and cutting-edge equipment, the force aims to stay ahead in surveillance, intelligence gathering, and border security, ensuring India is ready to handle both current and future aerial threats effectively.
