A Bengaluru woman faced a distressing situation after her newly purchased Mercedes-Benz, valued at ₹4.1 crore, was significantly damaged by valet staff at a restaurant. The incident occurred on February 26 at The Big Barbeque restaurant located in Marathahalli.

According to a social media post, the valet drivers were trying to shoot Instagram reels inside the luxury car when they accidentally crashed it into a wall. The crash caused damage worth ₹20 lakh. A video of the damaged vehicle has now surfaced online.

The post further claimed that after the crash, the drivers ran away from the spot. Instead of helping the car owner or taking responsibility, the restaurant allegedly gave fake details and showed forged documents to avoid blame.

“When the woman approached the police for justice, she was met with corruption and apathy. Officers suggested she ‘settle’ for ₹2 lakh rather than pursue legal action, making it clear that protecting businesses mattered more than justice. The restaurant continues to operate freely, the valet drivers are missing, and the woman is left fighting alone,” the post added.

Police and restaurant’s response

Marathahalli Police Station responded to the viral post. “I have spoken with the car owner. An incident happened on 26th Feb., and she visited the HAL Airport Traffic Police Station,” the police stated.

The car owner was identified as Bengaluru resident Divya Chhabra. She told Indian Express that the restaurant tried to confuse the investigation. They allegedly brought in a random man and claimed he was the driver, though he was not present during the incident and did not appear in the CCTV footage.

Fake license and court petition

Ms Chhabra also said that the restaurant later gave a fake, backdated contract with a third-party valet company to avoid blame. She further claimed the person who crashed the car did not have a valid licence and got the job using a fake one.

According to her, the restaurant owner has now filed a petition in the High Court asking for the FIRs against them to be cancelled. The car insurance claim is still pending due to this legal fight.
