After India launched missile attacks on terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir, Home Minister Amit Shah told all border states to stay alert and prepared for any emergency. These attacks were called Operation Sindoor and were done in response to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, where 25 tourists and a pony ride operator from Kashmir were killed.

Mr Shah chaired a video conferencing meeting with the lieutenant governors of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, chief ministers of Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Rajasthan, Gujarat and West Bengal, and a government representative from Sikkim. This meeting was called to review the security situation and prepare for any reaction from across the border.

During the meeting, all the chief ministers and lieutenant governors praised the Narendra Modi government and Indian armed forces for the success of Operation Sindoor, which involved 24 missile strikes across nine locations. These strikes were only aimed at terror infrastructure, without harming civilians or military assets.

Mr Shah said that “the spirit of national unity that has emerged in the aftermath of the terror attack and Operation Sindoor has boosted citizens' morale.”

States told to ensure services and watch social media

The home minister directed all states and union territories to keep essential services like healthcare, firefighting, and food supplies running smoothly. He also asked them to put the State Disaster Response Forces, Home Guards, civil defence teams, and NCC on high alert.

Shah also spoke about the danger of false news and anti-national propaganda spreading through social media. He said that “authorities should keep a strict vigil on anti-national propaganda” and take “swift action in coordination with central agencies” to stop the spread of such misinformation.

This warning comes after several social media accounts linked to Pakistan posted old or edited videos claiming to show Operation Sindoor. Many of these posts have already been flagged by fact-checkers as fake.
