After the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, where 26 people lost their lives, India is speeding up the launch of a powerful satellite that can help watch over the country’s borders, no matter the weather.
This special satellite, made by ISRO (India’s space agency), can take pictures during the day and night, and even see through clouds. It’s often called a “spy satellite” because it can spot things on the ground that are hard to hide.
Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh said the satellite, named EOS-09, will be launched soon using the PSLV-C61 rocket. This satellite will help India keep a close watch on its borders and stay better prepared for any danger.
The new satellite, called EOS-09, will have a special radar that can take very clear pictures of the ground at any time, even at night or when it's cloudy. This is possible because it uses a C-band synthetic aperture radar, which lets it work in all weather conditions, day or night.
This satellite has been built by Indian scientists and will join the group of over 50 satellites that India already has in space. Right now, India uses another powerful satellite called Cartosat-3, which can take sharp images from space. But it doesn’t work well at night, which can give enemies a chance to hide things. EOS-09 won’t have that problem, it can always keep watch, no matter the time or weather.
ISRO’s chairman, Dr V Narayanan, said they are working fast to launch this satellite using the PSLV rocket, and the mission is being treated as a top priority.
