At least five people died and more than 60 others, including Jain followers and police officers, were injured when a temporary stage collapsed during the ‘Nirvana Laddu Parv’ celebration in Baghpat, Uttar Pradesh, on Tuesday. This event was held to honour Bhagwan Adinath, the first spiritual teacher in Jainism. The stage collapse caused confusion and fear among the crowd, turning the celebration into a tragedy.

Rescue operations underway, authorities take action

When the temporary stage collapsed, many people got trapped under the debris, and others were hurt by the falling pieces. Rescue teams started working right away on Tuesday morning to free those trapped and help the injured. The teams quickly brought them to safety and gave them medical care.

Uttar Pradesh's Chief Minister, Yogi Adityanath, showed concern for what happened. He told the local authorities to take the right steps to help the injured people and make sure they get the treatment they need. He also wished for their fast recovery.

Local officials visit the injured

Baghpat District Magistrate, Asmita Lal, and Superintendent of Police, Arpit Vijayvargiya, visited the district hospital to monitor the condition of those injured. The DM confirmed that five deaths had occurred, with two additional deaths suspected but yet to be officially confirmed.

Speaking to the press, SP Vijayvargiya said, “Around 20–25 people were injured, some with minor injuries and others in serious condition, being treated in nearby hospitals.”

Earlier this month, a similar tragic event occurred at the Tirupati temple, where six people died in a stampede, highlighting ongoing safety concerns during religious events.
