A tragic road accident took place early Monday morning on the Lucknow-Agra Expressway in Uttar Pradesh's Fatehabad area, claiming the lives of a Delhi-based couple and their two children. The victims have been identified as Omprakash Singh (42), his wife Purnima (34), their daughter Ahana (12), and their four-year-old son Vinayak. The family, originally from the Motihari district in Bihar, was travelling back to Delhi when the accident occurred.
Accident details
The accident happened at around 12:30 am as the family was returning home from Prayagraj after taking a holy dip at Triveni Sangam. Police said the car, which was being driven by Omprakash Singh, collided with a minitruck coming from the opposite direction. All four family members died on the spot due to severe injuries.
Police suspect the crash occurred because the driver may have fallen asleep while driving. Assistant Commissioner of Police, Amar Deep, explained that "preliminary investigation suggests that the driver might have dozed off, leading to the accident." After reaching the scene, Fatehabad police officers retrieved the bodies that were trapped in the car.
Investigation and updates
The bodies of the victims have been sent for postmortem, and the family members have been notified. The 302-kilometre-long Agra-Lucknow Expressway connects Lucknow and Agra, making it a significant route. The accident follows a similar one on January 24, when two men lost their lives in a crash on the Delhi-Agra highway in Mathura.
