As people welcomed 2025, many used food delivery apps to satisfy their cravings, especially bachelors living away from home. However, Zomato's search data from New Year's Eve revealed an amusing trend. A total of 4,940 users searched for the term ‘girlfriend’ on the platform, highlighting a lighthearted moment amid the festive celebrations. This quirky search pattern adds a fun twist to the usual New Year’s Eve food delivery rush.
40 people went as far as searching for a ‘bride’ on Zomato. However, this wasn’t as playful as it sounds. The searches had a deeper context. Responding to a post by CNBC TV18 journalist Shirin Bhan on X (formerly Twitter), one user provided a potential explanation for this curious behaviour.
A man named Mustafa Khundmiri responded to the post on X, stating, “People are not as stupid as they are being shown to be.” He shared a screenshot revealing the names of two restaurants. One was Girlfriend Food Court, located in Ameerpet, Hyderabad, and the other was Girlfriend Arabian Mandi Restaurant, also in Hyderabad.
The post sparked a wave of humorous comments on X. One user joked, “This can only happen in India.” Another suggested, “Zomato has a chance to step into the field of matrimony as well. Quick Match Wedding.” A third person added, “I’m excited to know how many people ordered these.”
