Three pro-Khalistani terrorists who were wanted for attacking police stations in Punjab were killed in a gunfight in Pilibhit, Uttar Pradesh, on Monday. The operation was carried out by both the Uttar Pradesh and Punjab Police. They also found two AK rifles and two Glock pistols at the site.
The encounter took place after the Punjab Police, along with Pilibhit police, surrounded the district based on information they received. The police planned to capture the terrorists, but the terrorists started shooting at them. During the shootout, all three terrorists were injured and later died from their injuries.
Suspects linked to Punjab police attacks
The three terrorists who were killed were thought to be members of the Khalistan Zindabad Force (KZF), a group believed to get support from Pakistan. Punjab Police Chief Gaurav Yadav confirmed on social media that this group was involved in recent grenade attacks on police stations in Punjab, especially near the border, including an attack in Gurdaspur.
Yadav said that the injured terrorists were taken to a local hospital in Puranpur for treatment but unfortunately did not survive. The police are still investigating to find more information about the terror group.
Grenade attacks raise tensions in Punjab
The gunfight happened after several grenade attacks in Punjab. On Wednesday night, there was a blast near the Bakshiwal police station in Gurdaspur. Another blast-like sound was heard near the Wadala Bangar police station on Friday. The KZF group is said to have taken responsibility for the Wednesday attack on social media, though this is not confirmed.
Earlier, a blast occurred at the Islamabad police station in Amritsar last Tuesday, but no one was hurt. The police are still investigating these incidents to see if they are connected to the gunfight in Pilibhit.
