A 25-year-old Chartered Accountant, Dheeraj Kansal, was found dead in a guest house near Bengali Market in Delhi, after allegedly dying by suicide by inhaling helium gas. This is the first such case reported in the Capital. Police said Dheeraj had booked an Airbnb room at Bazaar Lane on July 20 and was supposed to check out on July 28.

When he didn’t check out, the guesthouse owner noticed a foul smell emanating from his room and called the police. When the police broke open the door, they found him lying dead on the bed. A pipe connected to a helium gas cylinder was found in his mouth, and his face and neck were wrapped in plastic to prevent gas from leaking.

Dheeraj had left behind detailed suicide notes, both on paper and on his Facebook profile. In his note, he made it clear that no one should be blamed for his death and that it was his personal decision. He wrote that everyone he met in life was kind to him.

He asked that his money be donated to an orphanage or old age home, and also requested that his organs be donated if possible. In the note, he expressed deep sadness and said he hated himself, calling himself a failure who had lost all hope and made many mistakes. He wrote that he could not find a reason to live and didn't want to be reborn.

Dheeraj said he had tried to change himself, but it didn’t work. He thanked everyone who helped him in life, saying he was grateful but never expressed it. He didn’t mention any names to ensure no one would get into trouble.
He also requested that people not mourn his death. “For me, death is the most beautiful part of my life,” he wrote, adding that he had no strong attachments or responsibilities, so no one would be affected deeply by his passing.
He mentioned that although he felt God had failed him, he still respected Lord Mahadev. “He gave me so many things I didn’t even ask for… just not the one thing I wanted,” he wrote.

Dheeraj also said he tried not to trouble anyone but always ended up being a burden. He ended the note saying, “Just forget that there ever was a creature named Dheeraj.” The body has been sent for postmortem at Lady Hardinge Hospital. Police said Dheeraj lost his father in 2002 and was staying in a PG accommodation in Mahipalpur. A case has been registered, and his phone and social media accounts are being examined.
