Twenty-five members of the transgender community in Indore said they had consumed phenyl, a poisonous cleaning liquid, and were taken to the government-run Maharaja Yashwantrao Hospital (MYH) for treatment.

Dr. Basant Kumar Ningwal, the Superintendent-in-Charge of the hospital, confirmed that all 25 individuals had been admitted for treatment. He said that the group told doctors that they had consumed phenyl together. However, the hospital staff could not immediately verify whether they had actually consumed phenyl or something else. Thankfully, none of the patients were in critical condition.

Why did they do it?

Police officials are trying to find the answer. Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP) Rajesh Dandotiya said that the real situation will become clear only after a proper investigation. He also mentioned that the police still do not know what exact substance was consumed, it might be phenyl or something else.

Another police officer suggested that this incident might have been linked to a dispute between two local groups within the transgender community. However, this is only a possibility, and nothing has been confirmed yet.

The incident has raised serious concerns. It is unusual for so many people to consume something harmful at the same time unless they were under emotional stress or trying to make a strong statement. Activists and social workers in the city say that members of the transgender community often face discrimination, financial struggles, and social neglect. Some believe that this could be a sign of deeper problems that need to be addressed.

For now, doctors are monitoring the health of all the patients. Police are speaking to the individuals involved to understand what led to this mass act. Until the investigation is complete, it is unclear whether this was a protest, a misunderstanding, or a serious internal conflict.
