The boys had gone to a house to return borrowed money for curd when they allegedly took the watch, according to the Mohgaon Police Station in-charge Rupalal Uike.

After realising the mistake, the boys quietly placed the watch in its original spot. However, two local men, Nikhil Kalambe and Surendra Bawankar, witnessed them doing this and decided to punish them. They took the boys to a tractor garage, where they  questioned them about the theft, beat them, and exposed them to chilli smoke.
