At least four people lost their lives, and 25 others were injured after a major road accident on the Yamuna Expressway in Mathura early Tuesday morning. The crash happened when seven buses and three cars collided due to dense fog and very poor visibility.
The accident led to a huge traffic pile-up, with some vehicles even catching fire, creating panic among passengers on the busy highway.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shlok Kumar confirmed that the thick fog was the main reason behind the accident. Speaking to reporters, he said, "At least four people were killed and 25 others were injured in a major road accident on the Yamuna Expressway in Mathura this Tuesday morning. The collision, involving seven buses and three cars, occurred due to dense fog."
He added, "As you can observe, it is still foggy here. This poor visibility is what caused approximately seven buses and three small cars to collide with each other. The accident also resulted in the cars catching fire."
Soon after the accident was reported, emergency teams were sent to the area. Police, fire services, and local officials worked together to rescue passengers and clear the road.
SSP Kumar said, "As soon as the news reached us, teams from our fire service, local police, and local administration were immediately dispatched to the scene." He added that rescue work was almost complete and confirmed, "So far, we can confirm that four people have died."
According to officials, around 25 injured people were taken to hospitals, but none are in critical condition.
The SSP said, "Approximately 25 people have been admitted to the hospital for treatment; however, none of them are seriously injured." He also said that arrangements were being made to safely send other passengers home using government vehicles.
Mathura District Magistrate Chandra Prakash Singh described the accident as tragic and shared details of the relief work.
He said, "This is a very unfortunate incident. We have recovered the bodies of the four people who were killed in the accident." He added that more than 12 fire tenders and over 14 ambulances were sent immediately to help the injured.
Singh told reporters, "The injured have been sent to C.H.C. Baldev and the District Hospital. We can confirm that none of them are seriously injured, and they are all reported to be out of danger."
The District Magistrate said that the main focus right now is helping victims, and the cause of the accident will be checked later.
He said, "The cause of the accident will be investigated later; for now, our primary focus is on the relief operations."
This accident comes just a day after another deadly fog-related crash on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway. That incident involved around 20 vehicles and killed four people, including two police officers, while 15 to 20 others were seriously injured.
Both accidents highlight the dangers of driving in heavy fog and low visibility, especially during early morning hours on highways.
