Comedian Kunal Kamra recently revealed that he was approached for the new season of Salman Khan’s reality show Bigg Boss. A casting director messaged him, saying his name came up as someone the makers might be interested in.

The message read, “I’m handling the casting for this season of Bigg Boss, and your name came up. It might not have been on your radar, but it’s a crazy platform to show your real vibe and connect with a big audience. What do you think? Should we talk?”

Kunal Kamra shared a screenshot of this chat on his Instagram Stories and gave a blunt reply. He wrote, “I would much rather check into a mental hospital…” making it clear that he’s not interested in joining the show.

Kunal Kamra didn’t mention whether the offer he got was for Bigg Boss OTT or Bigg Boss 19. The comedian is currently in the news for his parody video targeting Shiv Sena leader and Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.

The Madras High Court recently granted him interim protection from arrest. However, Kunal has skipped three summons issued by the Mumbai Police. He has now approached the Bombay High Court, requesting the cancellation of the cases filed against him.

In his petition, he argued that the complaints violate his fundamental rights: the right to freedom of expression under Article 19 and the right to life under Article 21 of the Constitution.

Kunal Kamra controversy

During his performance at The Unicontinental Mumbai in Khar, Kamra called Shinde a "traitor" and used a modified Hindi song from the Bollywood movie ‘Dil To Pagal Hai’ to criticize Shinde's 2022 rebellion against Uddhav Thackeray.

After the vandalism incident, Shiv Sena MLA Murji Patel filed a police complaint against the comedian, demanding an apology within two days. This came after party workers damaged the hotel and studio.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis also demanded an apology, warning that such comments would not be accepted under free speech and that legal action would follow. “Eknath Shinde ji has been insulted, and this will not be tolerated. The elections have shown us who the traitors are. No stand-up comedian should have the right to label such a prominent leader as a traitor," he stated.
