Kirron Kher, a well-known actress and former BJP Member of Parliament (MP) from Chandigarh, has been sent a notice asking her to pay ₹12.76 lakh. This amount is the pending licence fee for a government house that was given to her during her time as MP. She served as the Lok Sabha Member of Parliament from Chandigarh for two consecutive terms, from 2014 to 2024. She was first elected in the 2014 general elections and re-elected in 2019, representing the BJP for a total of ten years.
The house is located in Sector 7, Chandigarh. Government officials say she continued to stay in the house even after her official term as MP ended. Because of this, the bill became quite large, including regular rent, penalties, and interest. The notice was sent by the Office of Assistant Controller (Finance and Controller) Rents in Chandigarh on June 24, 2025.
According to the notice, Kirron Kher overstayed in the government-allotted house beyond the permitted period. For the duration from July 2023 to October 5, 2024, she was charged a regular licence fee of just ₹5,725. However, things escalated when she continued living there without authorisation. From October 6, 2024, to January 5, 2025, a 100% penalty was imposed, amounting to ₹3.64 lakh. The penalty increased even further to 200% for the period between January 6 and April 12, 2025, adding another ₹8.20 lakh. On top of that, interest charges of ₹26,106 and miscellaneous fees of ₹59,680 were included, bringing the total dues to a hefty ₹12.76 lakh.
All of this brought the total amount to ₹12.76 lakh. The notice warns that if Ms. Kher doesn’t pay soon, a 12% yearly interest will continue to be added. She has been asked to pay the amount either by bank transfer or a demand draft. So far, Kirron Kher has not made any public statement regarding this notice.
