Punjabi superstar Diljit Dosanjh recently started his 2024 India tour with a concert in Delhi and plans to perform in ten cities across the country by the end of the year. His shows are lively, and he often connects warmly with fans, which has made this tour popular on social media. However, some controversy has come up again from a recent world tour incident. A video from that tour caught the attention of British-American influencer Andrew Tate, who commented on it.

Tate’s controversial comment on social media

A video clip from Diljit Dosanjh’s world tour last month is being shared again on social media. In the popular video, Diljit generously hands his jacket to a fan at his concert. Fan gets emotional with this gesture, and it is obvious that her husband is moved by the thoughtful act. But when this video was reshared on X, Andrew Tate, a controversial figure known for his harsh views, left a racist comment on it. He wrote, “Bet it stinks of curry,” referring to the jacket Diljit gifted.

The comment, “Bet it stinks of curry,” is generally seen as a racial insult. It’s a negative stereotype often aimed at people from South Asia, using their cultural food to put them down. Fans immediately supported Diljit, criticising Tate’s comment as rude and unnecessary.

Who is Andrew Tate?

Andrew Tate, whose full name is Emily Andrew Tate, was born in 1986. He first became known when he joined the British reality show Big Brother in 2016 but was removed within six days after a video appeared to show him hitting a woman. Tate said the video was “edited” and denied the claims. Before this, he was a professional kickboxer, but he later became well-known online for his controversial and often negative views about women.

In recent years, Tate’s fame has grown due to serious accusations. He is now on trial in Romania, facing charges related to human trafficking and rape, along with claims of creating a group to exploit women. Last year, he was placed on house arrest while authorities investigated these allegations.

Fans react to Tate’s comment

Tate’s comment caused a lot of anger among Diljit’s fans and the Indian community abroad. Many people went on X to show their frustration, defending Diljit and criticising Tate’s words. One fan wrote, “Diljit is millions times the man you are, baldy human trafficker; your joke ain’t funny,” referring to Tate’s legal problems. Another person made a strong comment on Tate’s controversies, saying, “Still smells better than sexual misconduct.”

Some of Tate’s own fans were also disappointed with him. One person commented, "Andrew, I did respect you a lot. Guess I have to say you STFU for this one.” Others pointed out how Tate’s posts have changed over time. One person said, “Andrew Tate becoming a ragebaiting reply guy is the craziest fall off I’ve ever seen in a famous person,” noticing how Tate now tries to provoke people online for attention.
