Oscar-winning music composer AR Rahman and his wife Saira Banu confirmed their divorce on Tuesday through their lawyers. Later, AR Rahman shared an emotional note about their separation, calling it “shattering” and expressing how difficult it is to bear the “weight of broken hearts.” The couple married 29 years ago and have three children: one son, AR Ameen, and two daughters, Khatija Rahman and Raheema Rahman.
AR Rehman also thanked his friends for respecting their privacy. Sharing the post on X the music composer wrote, “We had hoped to reach the grand thirty, but all things, it seems, carry an unseen end. Even the throne of God might tremble at the weight of broken hearts. Yet, in this shattering, we seek meaning, though the pieces may not find their place again. To our friends, thank you for your kindness and for respecting our privacy as we walk through this fragile chapter.”
Before the singer's social media posts, the couple had released an official statement about their separation. "Vandana Shah and Associates issued a statement on behalf of Mrs. Saira and her husband, renowned musician A.R. Rahman, regarding their decision to end the 29-year-long marriage," HT quoted.
According to an interview with Rahman, “AR Rahman and Saira Banu had an arranged marriage. Rahman’s mother chose Saira for him. The musician also shared that In his late 20s, he didn't have time to look for a partner, but by the age of 29, he felt it was the right time to get married. So, he asked his mother to find him a bride.
