Many Class 12 students often struggle with mathematics, especially when they don’t have access to extra coaching or private tuition. To bridge this gap, the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has launched a free online mathematics course on the government’s SWAYAM portal. This initiative is aimed at helping students clear their doubts, build strong concepts, and improve problem-solving skills without any financial burden.

Mathematics is considered one of the most important subjects for higher education and career opportunities in fields like engineering, data science, and research. However, many students face challenges in understanding advanced concepts, often due to a lack of guidance or financial constraints. To address this, NCERT has designed a structured online course that ensures equal learning opportunities for all.

The course includes a week-wise plan with e-texts, video tutorials, self-assessment questions, and additional web resources for extended learning. Students can register for free through the official SWAYAM portal and access the material at their convenience.

The syllabus covers some of the most crucial Class 12 chapters, including:

1. Relations and Functions (with topics like bijective functions, composition, invertible functions, and binary operations)

2. Inverse Trigonometric Functions

3. Matrices and Determinants

4. Continuity and Differentiability

5. Applications of Derivatives

Each unit is followed by assignments to help students apply their learning and prepare effectively for exams. The program concludes with a final evaluation, whichwill assess overall understanding and mastery of the subject.

Officials said the move is intended not only to support students in academics but also to enhance India’s competitiveness in global education and technology-driven careers. Industry experts believe such free, high-quality courses can empower students, especially from rural and economically weaker backgrounds, to excel in subjects that are often considered difficult.

With this step, NCERT and SWAYAM hope to make quality mathematical education accessible to every learner and help them build a strong academic and professional foundation.
