Delhi University has released its first cutoff list for undergraduate admissions for 2025, and once again, the required scores are extremely high.

This year, Hindu College has the highest cutoff, asking for 950 out of 1,000 for BA (Hons.) Political Science. Lady Shri Ram College (LSR) is close behind, with 926 for BA (Hons.) Psychology, and St. Stephen’s College also asks for 926 for BA (Hons.) English.

Popular courses like BCom (Hons.) at Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) need a score of 917, while Miranda House wants 925 for BA (Hons.) Political Science. Even colleges that are not in the top tier are now asking for more than 90%, showing how tough the competition has become.

Why are DU cutoffs so high?

The main reason is that lakhs of students are applying for a limited number of seats. BCom (Hons.) received nearly 20 lakh total course-college preferences, while BA (Hons.) English had over 12 lakh.

Also, SRCC got 38,795 first-preference choices, followed by Hindu College (31,901) and Hansraj College (15,902).

In terms of subject stream, 58.9% of applicants came from Humanities, 20.9% from Commerce, and 20.2% from Science. On top of this, CUET scores are normalised (adjusted based on subject difficulty and exam shifts), which often pushes the cutoff scores even higher.

What’s next?

The second cutoff list will be out on July 28. But with only 1,528 course-college seats and over 71,000 applicants, it will still be very competitive.

Students must accept their seats by July 21 through the DU CSAS portal, or they might lose their chance.

For many students, these high scores are a reminder that getting into Delhi’s top colleges now needs almost perfect marks and a good backup plan.

Delhi University (DU), established in 1922 by an Act of the Central Legislative Assembly, is one of India’s largest and most respected universities. It started with just 3 colleges and 750 students but has now grown to over 80 colleges and more than 7 lakh students. DU has 16 faculties and over 80 academic departments.

The President of India is the Visitor, the Vice-President is the Chancellor, and the Chief Justice of India is the Pro-Chancellor. DU offers over 500 academic programs, with 209 under NAAC review, while others run in colleges are accredited separately. It is known for academic and social excellence.
