In the Amroha district of Uttar Pradesh, a 32-year-old woman reportedly committed suicide after not being able to handle the death of her pet cat. The woman, who was identified as Pooja, had moved to live with her mother in Hasanpur after her husband left her following a divorce. She had brought the cat home to avoid loneliness, but its untimely death shattered her completely.
Pooja's pet cat died on Thursday, according to reports. Grief-stricken, she refused to bury the animal, thinking that it could revive. She kept the lifeless body of the cat by her side despite her mother's repeated insistence, waiting for what she believed would be a miracle. Her emotional bond with the cat was so strong that she spent two days grieving its death without letting go.
As days went by, Pooja's family, especially her mother, attempted to coax her gently to release the pet and bury it properly. But she was adamant that the cat would come back to life. The emotional distress she went through only appeared to intensify, rendering her incapable of accepting the truth of the matter.
Two days after the cat died, on a Saturday evening, Pooja isolated herself in a room on the third floor of their house. Worried about her daughter, her mother visited her around 8 PM. When she opened the door, she was greeted by a ghastly sight—Pooja had committed suicide, with the dead cat still lying beside her.
Her mother's screams awakened neighbors, who immediately came to the house and called the police. Police arrived shortly afterward, taking forensic evidence from the scene. Investigations are already being conducted to identify further details about the incident.
