A 26-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly killing a 19-year-old woman by pushing her off the fifth floor of her home in northeast Delhi's Ashok Nagar.

The accused, Taufeeq, a resident of Rampur, Uttar Pradesh, was caught by police late Tuesday night after being on the run since the incident took place.

The incident was reported to the Jyoti Nagar Police Station around 8:30 am on Monday. According to officials, the victim, Neha, was found severely injured after allegedly being pushed from the rooftop of her building. She was rushed to Guru Teg Bahadur (GTB) Hospital, where doctors later confirmed her death.

During police questioning, Taufeeq admitted he had entered the building wearing a burqa to avoid being recognised by Neha’s family or neighbours. CCTV footage captured someone in a burqa entering the building and then leaving in a suspicious manner. Investigators are now analysing footage from multiple cameras in the area to piece together the full sequence of events.

Police sources said Taufeeq and Neha had reportedly been in a relationship for several months. According to the initial probe, tensions rose after Neha found out Taufeeq was going to marry someone else through a family arrangement. A heated argument allegedly broke out between them on the rooftop just before the incident occurred.

However, Neha’s family has strongly denied that she was ever in a relationship with Taufeeq. Her father told police,

“Neha never had a romantic relationship with Taufeeq, and she used to tie a rakhi to him.”

He added that the family had known Taufeeq for about three years and that he often visited their home.

Delhi Police confirmed that further investigation is underway. Officers are reviewing evidence and statements to determine what exactly led to Neha’s death.
