A 28-year-old man stabbed his grandfather to death in Hyderabad over a property dispute, police said. The victim, VC Janardhan Rao, was the Chairman and MD of the ₹460 crore Veljan Group, which deals in hydraulics, shipbuilding, and energy.

The accused, Keerthi Teja, had recently returned from the US after completing his post-graduation. On Thursday night, he and his mother, Sarojini Devi, visited his grandfather’s house. While his mother was in the kitchen making tea, an argument broke out over a director position in the company.

Mr. Rao had appointed his eldest daughter’s son, Srikrishna, as director, while Teja, the son of his second daughter, received shares worth ₹4 crore. This reportedly led to the deadly attack. Teja has been arrested.

Teja accused his grandfather of neglecting him since childhood and treating him unfairly. As their argument grew heated, he lost control and allegedly stabbed his grandfather with a knife he had brought. Some reports claim he stabbed him over 70 times, but police say the autopsy will confirm the exact number.

When his mother tried to intervene, Teja attacked her too, leaving her with four stab wounds. She has been hospitalized.

After committing the crime, Teja threatened the security guard who witnessed the incident and fled. He was later arrested, presented in court, and sent to judicial custody. Police are investigating, with some reports suggesting he was under the influence of drugs.
