In Kolkata's Newtown area, a government employee allegedly stabbed four of his colleagues after being denied leave, officials reported on Thursday. The accused has been identified as Amit Kumar Sarkar, who later walked around with the bloodied knife,the disturbing scene was captured on camera.
Sarkar worked in the technical education department at Karigari Bhavan. He is a resident of Ghola in Sodepur, North 24 Parganas district.
This morning, following an argument with his colleagues over taking time off, he attacked them with a knife and then tried to flee, said a senior police official. Sarkar, a resident of Ghola in Sodepur, North 24 Parganas district, works in the technical education department.

The video captures, Sarkar walking calmly in the daytime, a bag over his shoulder and another handbag in his hand carrying the blood-stained knife. Bystanders captured it on camera using their mobile phones when Sarkar was warning people to stay away from his vicinity as well.
The four injured colleagues—Jaydeb Chakraborty, Santanu Saha, Sartha Late, and Sheikh Satabul—were taken to a nearby hospital immediately for treatment. According to reports, two of them are still in critical condition.
Though it has been confirmed that Sarkar turned violent after being denied leave, the reason for the denial is not known. The authorities are also probing if he has any mental health issues.
Sarkar has been taken into custody and more investigations are underway to find out the depth of the issue.
