Melissa Curtis, a former Maryland teacher, was sentenced to 30 years in prison for having sex with a teen student. According to the Fox 5 DC report, Cutris will have an overall punishment of 30 years out of which 12 months are suspended and five years of supervised probation for having sex with a minor multiple times.

After Curtis release from the jail, she will have to register as a sex offender for 25 years.The government will keep track of her, meanwhile on probation, she cannot be alone with any minor except her child. 

On November 7, 2023, the former teacher went to the police station and admitted her crime. The police charged her with sexual abuse of a minor and multiple counts of third- and fourth-degree sexual offences. 
According to a report, the sexual abuse happened between January and May 2015 in Montgomery County, Maryland when the student was in eighth grade.

The abuse occurred in Melissa Curtis' car and at different houses in the area. Police said that Curtis gave the student alcohol and marijuana and had sexual intercourse with him more than 20 times.

Curtis had been a teacher for about two years. She also worked at Lakelands Park Middle School, the police added.

The advocates stated that the young student volunteered for an after-school program run by Melissa Curtis due to which they often spent time alone together.The police started investigating in October 2023 after the student told them about the abuse. Melissa Curtis admitted her guilt to three counts of third-degree sex offences on June 20th as per the media reports.
