A 40-year-old man allegedly killed his wife and mother-in-law with a pair of scissors in Delhi’s Rohini on Saturday, police said. The accused, identified as Yogesh Sehgal, had earlier worked at a jewellery shop but was recently unemployed. He has now been arrested.

The victims were Yogesh’s wife, 34-year-old Priya Sehgal, and her mother, 63-year-old Kusum Sinha. The killings took place at the family’s home in Sector 17, barely two days after the household had celebrated the birthday of the couple’s elder son.

According to police, the couple often argued over small issues. On Saturday afternoon, Kusum’s son, Megh Sinha, tried calling her but got no reply. When he reached the house, he saw blood stains near the locked main door. After breaking it open, Priya and Kusum were found inside with multiple stab wounds.

“I was trying to call my mother, but all the calls went unanswered. I went to their house looking for her, but when I broke the lock, I saw my mother and sister lying with multiple stab wounds. He brutally killed them with a scissors. He also took my nephews. I don’t know what his intentions are. We just want them to be safe. He told police in front of me that my mother abused him. My mother has never even argued with him...,” Megh told HT.

Officers said Yogesh attacked the two women when his teenage sons were at school. Investigators revealed that during the elder son’s birthday celebration earlier in the week, a dispute had broken out between Yogesh and Priya over gifts exchanged among relatives.

Police recovered the blood-stained scissors and clothes from the scene. Yogesh was tracked down within an hour near KN Katju Marg and charged with murder.
