A married couple was found dead at their home in Jaipur’s Muhana area on Friday in a suspected case of suicide. However, police have said they are also looking into other possibilities, including murder.

The couple has been identified as Dharmendra, who worked as a sales manager in a bank, and his wife Suman, a homemaker. The couple’s two daughters, aged 11 and 8, are safe and were at their grandparents’ home in Bharatpur for the summer holidays.

The incident came to light when Dharmendra didn’t show up at work and did not answer phone calls. A friend became worried and asked a family member to visit their flat. When the door was opened, both Dharmendra and Suman were found dead lying on the floor.

CCTV footage shows the couple arguing

The police checked CCTV footage from the apartment’s parking area. The footage from Thursday afternoon, a day before their deaths, showed the couple arguing. Suman was seen trying to stop Dharmendra from driving away.

Later in the footage, Dharmendra stopped the car, and they were seen talking. Suman rested her head on his shoulder and held his arms. They both came out of the car, and Dharmendra was seen with his arm around her as they walked back.

Another video from Thursday evening showed the couple entering their flat together. Suman was carrying a bag. This was the last time they were seen alive.

Family, police share different views

Police officer Gur Bhupendra said, “This appears to be a case of death by suicide. If murder is suspected, then we will investigate from that angle as well.”

However, Suman’s father, Ajay Singh, alleged that there were injury marks on her body. “There are injury marks on Suman’s body, so they should also investigate the murder angle… There was no marital discord in the family,” he said.

Police said there was no sign of forced entry or robbery. The couple’s mobile phones have been sent for forensic examination to find any possible clues.
