Today, there was tension in Sribhumi, Assam, after a young woman was attacked inside a moving bus. Many people are comparing this incident to the Nirbhaya case, which happened 13 years ago and shocked the country. The attack has made people very angry, and right-wing groups are protesting, demanding that the police take quick action against those responsible.

What happened?

On Monday evening, a woman was going home after finishing work at Badarpur Circle Office. She got on a bus to Sribhumi. After the bus reached Bhanga, two passengers got off. Then, the remaining men on the bus locked the doors and tried to attack her.

The woman quickly understood she was in danger. She sent her live location to her family on WhatsApp for help. When the attackers saw this, they got scared. They threw her out of the moving bus and ran away.

She suffered injuries from the fall and was taken to Karimganj Civil Hospital for treatment.

The police have arrested two of the 10 men allegedly involved in the incident and have also seized the bus. A senior officer confirmed, "Two individuals have been arrested on charges of molestation, and the search for another suspect is on."

The woman’s family has filed an official complaint at Bhanga Police Station, and the police are investigating the case.

Angry protests broke out after the attack. Right-wing groups and local residents gathered at Sribhumi bus station, blocking roads and demanding the immediate arrest of all accused. Bus services in the area have been stopped due to the protests.

Protesters have given the district administration a 12-hour deadline to arrest the criminals. They warned that if action is not taken, the protests will intensify.
