A matrimonial advertisement in Mumbai has gone viral after it caught the attention of social media users for its unusual approach. Instead of listing traditional details like the woman’s height, education, and occupation, the ad referred to the family’s “500+ market cap.”
The ad, which was shared on Reddit, read:
"A Mumbai-based business family with a 500 crore+ market cap is looking for a suitable Marwari/Gujarati boy for their daughter's (28 yrs) marriage."
Surprising use of "Market Cap" sparks reactions
In the business world, market cap refers to the total value of a company’s shares. The use of this term in a matrimonial context caught many by surprise and led to a series of humorous comments online.
One Reddit user commented, "Lol, I never trusted these adverts. Families with 500+ crore net worth usually have tightly knit elite circles. They don't need to advertise like this."
Some people also suggested that the ad was a way to attract a groom from a similar financial background. “The stereotype is real, and the Marwari/Gujarati guy they’re looking for their daughter would most likely be loaded without even having to set an income filter,” said another user.
A light-hearted comment read, "I am willing to convert to Marwari."
Another viral matrimonial ad raises eyebrows
This ad is not the only unusual matrimonial ad to go viral. Last year, an ad from Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, became famous when a 26-year-old man described himself as an “investor” earning Rs 29 lakh per year. He also claimed his income was growing by 54% annually and offered to share a PowerPoint presentation on his methods for “safe investing” to prove his financial independence.
