Citroen has launched the 2025 model of its C5 Aircross SUV with big updates. Everything from the design to the engine has been changed. The biggest news is that, for the first time, the car will come in a fully electric version. This has been made possible because of Stellantis' new STLA medium platform, which is also used in other cars like the Peugeot 3008 and Vauxhall Grandland in Europe.
The new C5 Aircross gets its design from a concept car that Citroen showed in 2024 at the Munich Motor Show. The front of the SUV now looks completely different, with new headlamps and daytime running lights (DRLs). The bumper has also been changed, giving the car a fresh and modern look. It also has new 20-inch alloy wheels that make the SUV look more stylish.
Though the SUV still has a boxy shape, the design has been changed to improve aerodynamics. This helps in better fuel efficiency. The new C5 Aircross is now longer—its length has increased by 150 mm, and the wheelbase is 600 mm longer. At the back, the taillamps have a new look, and the black cladding gives a stronger appearance.
New cabin and engine options
Inside, the cabin has been fully updated to feel more premium. A floating screen now sits in the centre, and users can customise it. Citroen has also removed many physical buttons and replaced them with touchscreen controls to give it a modern feel.
The 2025 C5 Aircross will come in three versions: two hybrids and one all-electric. The mild hybrid has a 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine and a small electric motor in a dual-clutch transmission, with a 0.9kWh battery. The plug-in hybrid uses a 1.6-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with a 123 hp electric motor. This version has a total output of 193 hp and comes with a 21 kWh battery, allowing it to run 85 km on electric power alone.
The fully electric version of the C5 Aircross offers two battery choices. One is a 73kWh battery with a driving range of 519 km. The other is a larger kWh battery that offers 679 km of range. The front motor gives a power of either 207 hp or 227 hp depending on the battery.
