According to reports, Jonathan Bloomer, the chairman of Morgan Stanley International, was on board the yacht which sank in Sicily on Monday morning. He and the other six people who are still unaccounted for include UK IT millionaire Mike Lynch. The boat was struck by an unusual storm early on Monday, according to an Italian coast guard official, and it promptly sank. It was carrying 12 passengers in addition to a crew of ten.
Mike Lynch, the British tycoon, was among the first well-known figures to come out of the catastrophe. Hannah, his 18-year-old daughter, has also not been located. Clifford Chance attorney Chris Morvillo and Jonathan Bloomer are two more well-known individuals who have gone missing, according to Salvatore Cocina, the head of Sicily's civil protection office. The Coast Guard is providing helicopters and rescue boats, while fire rescue and civil protection agencies are also assisting in the search and rescue activities.
There were twelve passengers and ten staff members on board the 56-meter superyacht known as Bayesian. Angela Bacares, the spouse of Mike Lynch, was one of the people saved. Nine of the people that were saved are in a hospital, while the other people are staying at a hotel. The chef is thought to be the one who died and was discovered on the boat's hull.
For the superyacht flying the British flag, a fierce storm proved to be fatal. When the tornado struck, it was anchored a short distance offshore close to the Port of Porticello. The boat was unable to endure the strong storm in the early morning due to the bad weather that had occurred over night. Sadly, the location where the Bayesian had been anchored was hit by a waterspout.
The boat sent out a flare as an SOS, but it quickly sank. Fisherman Fabio Cefalù told the Associated Press that he hurried to the location as soon as he observed a flare at approximately 4:30 in the morning. By the time he got there, all that was visible in the water was wood, couches, and other luxury furnishings.
There will be an inquiry into the sinking. Four inspectors from the UK Marine Accident Investigation Branch are traveling to Italy to conduct an evaluation. A number of British nationals and their families were receiving consular help from the Foreign Commonwealth and Development office.
The 2008 superyacht was constructed by Perini Navi, an Italian company. In addition to crew quarters, Charter World and Yacht Charters claim that it included four double cabins, a triple, and a master suite that could accommodate up to 12 people. It was flown under the Dutch flag and was once known as Salute.
