Authorities are reportedly searching for a foreign individual who was spotted in a widely circulated video, meditating naked in the open at a Hindu shrine on Bali, an Indonesian island resort. The authorities have promised to crack down harder on rowdy tourists in the wake of a number of events, including displays of disrespect for the island nation.

Revelation

The incident received a great deal of attention in Indonesia because Balinese influencer Ni Luh Djelantik posted a video of a naked man meditating there that garnered hundreds of thousands of views.

"So disrespectful. Meditating nak*d on our temple ? ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR F*CKIN MIND ? How could you do this, humiliating Balinese and their belief ? Immigration Officer please get this person, we’ve had enough ! This is a humiliation to us Balinese people,” Balinese influencer wrote on her Instagram post.

In a statement to the AFP news agency, Immigration Office Director Tedy Riyandi stated, "We are still conducting investigations regarding this incident."

The foreign national has been identified by the authorities, but neither his identity nor the nation of his origin have been made public because the search is still going on.

The Immigration Office is currently contacting the foreigner's social media accounts, but as of yet, no response has been received, said Riyandi.

He said the Bali police were coordinating the hunt for the foreigner while they tried to figure out when and where it happened.

Tourists' inappropriate behaviour

Each year, Bali welcomes millions of foreign tourists, but since the island's reopening amid the Covid-19 outbreak, individuals have been expelled for engaging in improper behaviour in a handful of high-profile cases.

This year, a number of visitors to Bali were kicked out for bothering locals with their immoral behaviour. When a Danish woman was photographed flashing visitors while riding a motorbike in June, Bali immigration ordered her to leave the island. For uploading a picture of herself in a nude near a sacred tree in April, a Russian woman was driven out from Bali. In response to pressure from the island's immigration office, the government of Bali released a tourist guide in June.
