Luigi Mangione, a 26-year-old former Ivy League student who is a prime suspect in connection with the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson was arrested in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on Monday. Mangione was found with an unlicensed gun, a silencer, and fake ID cards.
Brian Thompson, 50, was shot outside the New York Hilton Midtown hotel on December 4 while in town for his company's annual investor conference. He was shot multiple times, including in the back and the right calf, and later died in the hospital.

According to CNN, Luigi Mangione, arrested by the New York Police as a "strong person of interest," is an Ivy League graduate and software engineer. He hails from a well-known Baltimore family, with his grandfather, Nicholas Mangione, a famous real estate developer and his grandmother, Mary C. Mangione, a philanthropist.
Mangione’s LinkedIn profile indicates he holds both a bachelor’s and a Master of Science in engineering from the University of Pennsylvania, which was confirmed by The Guardian with a university spokesperson. His profile also mentions that he worked at TrueCar for four years, but TrueCar clarified to The Guardian that Mangione had not been employed there since 2023.
Also, Mangione is registered to vote at his family’s address in Cockeysville, Maryland, a suburb of Baltimore, according to the state’s voter registration website.
After learning about Mangione's arrest, his family was shocked and released a statement. The statement reads,“Our family is shocked and devastated by Luigi’s arrest,” Nino Mangione said in a written statement signed with The Mangione Family. We offer prayers to the family of Brian Thompson and ask people to pray for all involved.”
