The World Health Organisation (WHO) has recently debunked the theory of linking mobile phones with brain and neck cancer. In association with the New Zealand Ministry of Health, WHO conducted one of the biggest and most comprehensive studies to make this revelation. For years and decades, multiple theories have been misleading the world, claiming that the radio waves emitted through mobile phones could cause brain cancer. However, the study debunked all these claims.

WHO researchers conducted a review, observing 64 studies published from 1994 to 2022 on the use of phones and their effect on the human body. The publications belonged to 22 different countries. The research finally concluded that mobile phones can not be linked with any form of cancer. “We concluded the evidence does not show a link between mobile phones and brain cancer or other head and neck cancers.”

Multiple cancer branches were studied in relation to the mobile phone's radiation, including the brain, pituitary gland, salivary glands, and leukaemias. However, no link was established. Concerning prolonged usage, the study assured that there is no link with cancer if a person even uses a mobile for a decade. Further shedding some positive light, the study highlighted that there is no record of a rise in brain cancer despite increasing usage of wireless technologies.

Mark Elwood, co-author of the study and professor of cancer epidemiology at the University of Auckland, New Zealand, revealed, “None of the major questions studied showed increased risks."

Previous misleading theory

It is ironic that in 2011, WHO's subsection, the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), claimed that radiowave exposure can lead to carcinogens (cancer-causing agents) in human bodies. However, that study was based on limited evidence and therefore was not concrete. It was completely based on human observational studies where patients with brain cancer asserted that they use mobile phones much more frequently.
