War-damaged Ukraine has urged India to contribute to the country’s post-war reconstruction efforts. Kviv’s Ambassador to India Dr. Oleksandr Polischuk made his request in an event in New Delhi marking Ukraine’s Independence Day.
The ambassador said that his country and its civilians are still recovering from the damage inflicted on infrastructure due to the war. He added that is continuing to provide education to its students amidst a high level of threats of missile attack from Russia. He also said that the world’s largest democracy should participate in the fields of business and trade. He also lauded India’s Humanitarian assistance to in his statement.
The WTC Business and Industry Association and The Indo-Ukraine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IUCCI) also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) during the event.
Damage to infrastructure due to the Russia-Ukraine war
Ukraine’s Member of Parliament the First Deputy Head of the Transport and Infrastructure Committee, Yulia Klymenko raised the same concerns about damage to infrastructure due to the war, pointing out that her country is trying to preserve its critical infrastructure even as over 7k kilometres of roads have been damaged. She joined the event virtually from Kyiv.
On the 555th day of the ongoing war, she claimed that numerous schoolchildren had to switch to different languages for their education due to the relentless disruptions caused by the conflict. She added that 70 per cent of Ukrainians in the areas unimpacted by the war are still paying taxes and supporting its military to keep the business afloat.
Showing deep gratitude towards India for its unwavering support, she extended an earnest appeal to Indian enterprises to seize the opportunity as pioneers and consider investing in Ukraine.
India so far has maintained a neutral stance in the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, urging both parties to settle their concerns through diplomatic channels.
