Russia launched its biggest attack on Ukraine since the war began in 2022. According to reports, Russia sent 367 drones and missiles across Ukraine. The Ukrainian Air Force said it destroyed 266 drones and 45 missiles, but many cities were still hit. Kyiv, the capital, was also targeted in this attack. At least 12 people were killed, and many others were injured.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said more than 30 cities and villages were affected by this strike. He added that the attacks began Saturday night and affected almost every part of the country. Many buildings were damaged, and emergency teams were seen working in destroyed areas to save lives.

The attack came at a time when Russia and Ukraine had agreed to a prisoner swap. Despite this move towards peace, the heavy strike shocked the world and raised serious concerns about Russia’s real intentions.

Trump slams Putin: “Something has happened to him”

Reacting strongly to the attack, US President Donald Trump spoke to reporters at Morristown airport in New Jersey on Sunday. Trump, who earlier tried to maintain friendly relations with Russian President Vladimir Putin, openly criticised him after the strike.

Trump said, “If he wants all of Ukraine, it’ll lead to Russia’s downfall.”
He added, “I’m not happy with Putin. He’s killing a lot of people. And I don’t know what the hell happened to Putin! I’ve known him a long time. Always gotten along with him. But he’s sending rockets into cities and killing people. And I don’t like it at all.”

He further said, “We’re in the middle of talking, and he’s shooting rockets into Kyiv and other cities! I don’t like it at all. I don’t like what Putin is doing, not even a little bit. He’s killing people. And something happened to this guy, and I don’t like it.”

Trump also shared his views on his social media platform Truth Social. In his post, he wrote, “I’ve always had a very good relationship with Vladimir Putin of Russia, but something has happened to him. He has gone absolutely CRAZY! He is needlessly killing a lot of people, and I’m not just talking about soldiers. Missiles and drones are being shot into cities in Ukraine for no reason whatsoever.”

Trump also mentioned that he had a two-hour call with Putin last week. He said he has also been talking to Ukrainian President Zelenskyy, trying to bring both sides to the peace table. But peace efforts suffered a major setback when Putin did not attend a scheduled peace meeting in Turkey.

Zelenskyy criticises international silence

Ukrainian President Zelenskyy expressed disappointment with the international response, especially from the United States. He said that many world leaders are not reacting strongly enough to Russia’s brutal actions.

“The world may go on vacation, but the war continues, despite weekends and weekdays,” Zelenskyy said. “This cannot be ignored. America’s silence, and the silence of others in the world, only encourages Putin.”

He warned that the attacks will continue unless strong pressure is put on the Russian government. Many experts say the current situation shows that peace is still far away and may take a long time to achieve unless serious action is taken.
