President-elect Donald Trump has vowed to “eradicate the transgender lunacy” from the day he resumed the presidential office. The decision came as a result of a continuous push by the Republicans against LGBTQ rights.
At an event in Phoenix, Arizona for young conservatives, Trump said, “We’re going to stop the transgender lunacy. I will sign executive orders to end child sexual mutilation, get transgender out of the military and out of our elementary schools and middle schools and high schools.”
He also promised to "keep men out of women's sports" and went on to state, "It will be the official policy of the United States government that there are only two genders: male and female."
Referring to his inauguration Trump said, "On January 20, the United States will leave behind four long years of failure, incompetence, and national decline, and we will usher in a new era of peace, prosperity, and national greatness."
Transgender issues have become a major point of contention in U.S. politics in recent years, with states controlled by Democrats and Republicans taking drastically different approaches on matters like medical treatment and the availability of books on the topic in public and school libraries, as reported by AFP.
Last week, when the U.S. Congress passed its annual defence budget, it included a provision that would block funding for certain gender-affirming care for the transgender children of service members.
“I will end the war in Ukraine. I will stop the chaos in the Middle East, and I will prevent, I promise, World War III.” He added: "The golden age of America is upon us."
Trump has not yet explained how he plans to end the war in Ukraine or bring peace to the Middle East.
However, Trump spoke harshly about Panama, saying on Sunday that the country "hasn't treated us fairly" in managing the Panama Canal. He also called the fees for using the canal, which was started by France and finished by the U.S., "ridiculous."
Trump added that if Panama does not follow the terms of the 1970s treaty giving it control of the canal, the U.S. will demand it be returned "quickly and without question."
