US President Donald Trump has given a strong message to big technology companies like Google and Microsoft, asking them to stop hiring people from other countries, including India. At the AI Summit held in Washington on Wednesday, Trump said American companies should focus more on creating jobs in the United States. He criticised companies for building factories in China and giving jobs to Indian tech workers instead of helping Americans.
Speaking at the event, Trump said the tech industry has a “globalist mindset” that has ignored American workers. He said, "Many of our largest tech companies have reaped the blessings of American freedom while building their factories in China, hiring workers in India, and stashing profits in Ireland, you know that. All the while dismissing and even censoring their fellow citizens right here at home. Under President Trump, those days are over."
Trump called for more patriotism from technology companies. He said, "Winning the AI race will demand a new spirit of patriotism and national loyalty in Silicon Valley and long beyond Silicon Valley." He added, "We need US technology companies to be all in for America. We want you to put America first. You have to do that. That's all we ask."
Trump signs three AI orders to push America’s AI growth
During the summit, Trump also signed three new executive orders related to artificial intelligence. One of these orders is called Winning the Race. This plan aims to make the US a global leader in AI. It includes building more data centres and making it easier for companies to set up AI infrastructure.
The second order focuses on companies that get federal money for AI development. Trump said that these companies must now build AI tools that are “politically neutral.” He clearly stated that his government will not support “woke” AI. Trump said, “We are getting rid of woke.” He added that AI tools should be based on facts and not be influenced by any political thinking. These rules will also apply to AI systems used by US government offices.
Trump also said he does not like the term “artificial intelligence” and prefers a name that shows how powerful and smart the technology is. “It’s not artificial; it’s genius,” he said.
The third executive order focuses on making American AI tools more competitive in the global market. It includes steps to support full development of AI inside the US and help in exporting these tools.
Though these changes will not happen immediately, many experts believe they could affect Indian tech workers and outsourcing companies in the future, especially if Trump wins another term in office.
