US President Donald Trump on Thursday disclosed the $5 million "gold card" visa for wealthy migrants during a press briefing aboard Air Force One. Holding up the sleek card, which prominently features his image, Trump described it as a symbol of exclusivity and opportunity for those who can afford it. "For $5 million, this could be yours," he declared, emphasizing its prestige and value.
"This is the first of the cards. Do you know what this is?" he added, hinting at the significance of the new visa program designed to attract high-net-worth individuals.
“It’s the Gold Card, the Trump Card,” Trump said as he introduced the new $5 million visa for wealthy migrants. He claimed to be the first buyer but wasn’t sure who the second buyer would be. He added that the card “will be out in less than two weeks, probably.”
The Gold Card will replace the current EB-5 Immigrant Investor Visa Program, which allows foreign investors to get Green Cards if they invest at least $800,000 in special employment areas or $1.8 million elsewhere while creating at least ten US jobs. Trump called the EB-5 system outdated and inefficient, saying the Gold Card would be a better and more exclusive option.
Last month, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick claimed that over 1,000 Gold Cards had already been sold and that more than 37 million people worldwide could afford to buy one, according to the New York Post. In contrast, over the past 25 years, only 135,518 EB-5 visas have been issued, according to data from the Invest In the USA (IIUSA) trade association.
