World’s largest cruise ship ‘Icon of The Seas’, to set sail on 27th January

The 'Icon of the Seas' is fully booked until 2026, showcasing the immense anticipation surrounding this new venture

The world’s largest cruise ship, the ‘Icon of The Seas,’ is set to sail on January 27, 2024, from Miami, surpassing the previous title-holder, the ‘Wonder Of The Seas.’ Royal Caribbean, the cruise line behind this $2 billion venture, aims to redefine the cruise industry. Reports indicate that the Icon of the Seas is fully booked until 2026, showcasing the immense anticipation surrounding this new venture.

According to CBS, the Icon of the Seas is an impressive ship, spanning over 1,200 feet and featuring 20 decks. It has the capacity to accommodate up to 7,600 passengers in 2,805 staterooms, making it the largest cruise ship globally. Additionally, nearly 10,000 people, including the crew, can be on board. The ship boasts seven pools, a groundbreaking onboard water park with six slides, a theater, casino, and over 40 dining and drinking spots on deck.

Jay Schnieder, the Chief Product Innovation Officer for Royal Caribbean, emphasized that the ship’s design prioritizes providing ample space for passengers. Despite the large number of guests, he assures that it won’t feel overcrowded. The intention is to create iconic experiences for passengers, ensuring an enjoyable and comfortable journey for everyone on board.

The pricing details for a weeklong stay on the Icon of the Seas vary, with an average stateroom costing around $3,500 for two people. For those seeking the ultimate luxury experience, there is a three-storey suite known as the ultimate family townhouse, priced at up to $100,000 per trip. Another high-end option is the Royal Loft, featuring two bedrooms, a private hot tub, and a balcony, starting at $40,000.

However, despite the excitement surrounding the Icon of the Seas, concerns have been raised about its environmental impact. The $2 billion venture is seen as a potential climate liability due to the substantial carbon footprint it may leave. As the cruise industry faces increased scrutiny for its contribution to environmental issues, the Icon of the Seas’ record-breaking size raises questions about its sustainability and adherence to eco-friendly practices.
