Former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has alleged that groups she referred to as “imposters” and “terror apologists” played a role in removing her from power. She said she plans to return to Bangladesh to “deliver justice to her people.”
Her comments appear in an upcoming book titled ‘Inshallah Bangladesh: The Story of an Unfinished Revolution’, written by Deep Halder, Jaideep Mazumdar, and Sahidul Hasan Khokon, and published by Juggernaut, as reported by News18.
Hasina criticised Muhammad Yunus, the interim government’s Chief Advisor, accusing him of supporting foreign involvement in changing Bangladesh’s government. She also accused him of harming the country after taking charge.
In the book, Hasina is quoted saying: “Yunus was behind the plotting, financing, and execution of the terror attack on Bangladesh during July–August last year at the behest of the Americans. He is a cheat who has destroyed his country for his ambitions. Now he and his coterie are looting the country and running it to the ground.”
Hasina also called the student protests that led to her resignation a “terror act”, claiming Yunus helped fund the movement.
Hasina earlier told Reuters that she is currently in New Delhi. She said she will only go back to Bangladesh once there is a government she believes is constitutional and lawful.
She also said the Awami League will not participate in next year’s national election if the party is not allowed to contest.
Hasina stated, “It’s really not about me or my family. For Bangladesh to achieve the future we all want, there must be a return to constitutional rule and political stability. No single person or family defines our country’s future.”
She added, “I would of course love to go home, so long as the government there was legitimate, the constitution was being upheld, and law and order genuinely prevailed.”
