Prime Minister Modi, who is currently in Russia for a two-day official visit, made a direct appeal to end the war with Ukraine. Modi urged the Russian President during his informal meeting at his residence in Moscow. As per the sources, PM Modi told him there is no solution on the battlefield.
PM Modi made this appeal while having dinner with Putin. According to reports, Modi told him, "India has always called for respecting the UN Charter, including territorial integrity and sovereignty. There is no solution on the battlefield. Dialogue and diplomacy is the way forward."
Besides his appeal, PM Modi also showed his concern over the rising issue of Indians getting tricked into joining the Russian army by travel agents. This issue has been highlighted by many victims on social media who were deceived into joining the Russian military by the travel agents who promised them a high-paying job in Russia.
According to the sources, Russia has confirmed that all the victims of this scam will be repatriated.
Reports suggest that more than two dozen Indians have been forced to fight in the Russo-Ukrainian war, and all of these victims were scammed by their travel agents. A video showing a group of men from Punjab and Haryana wearing army uniforms surfaced on social media. In the video, the men explain how they were tricked into joining the Russian army by the travel agents.
This is PM Modi's first visit to Russia since the country announced a war against Ukraine. India has avoided to criticize Russia over its actions ever since the war began. India has chosen to remain neutral by abstaining from voting on United Nations resolutions that criticize or censure Moscow.
Putin congratulated Modi for his record third consecutive term as the Prime Minister of India. He highlighted Modi's effectiveness and claimed, "The results speak for themselves; India now ranks third globally in terms of economy."
Following the visit to Russia, PM Modi will undertake a historic trip to Austria, making it the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Austria in 40 years.
