On Wednesday, US President Joe Biden pledged $100 million in humanitarian relief for the Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank during his visit to Israel in the wake of the tragic bombing on Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital in Gaza. During his brief visit, Biden gave a speech in which he stated that the people of Gaza needed food, water, medication, and shelter.

Additionally, he claimed to have persuaded the Israeli cabinet to support the distribution of life-saving humanitarian aid to Gaza's civilian population. According to a White House statement, the financing would help provide over a million displaced and conflict-affected people with clean water, food, hygiene support, medical treatment, and other basic necessities.

"The United States provides humanitarian assistance through trusted partners including UN agencies and international NGOs," it stated.

"Today, I'm also announcing USD 100 million in new US funding for humanitarian assistance in both Gaza and the West Bank. This will support more than one million displaced and conflict-affected Palestinians including emergency needs in Gaza," Biden stated.

"I just announced USD 100 million for humanitarian assistance in Gaza and the West Bank. This money will support over 1 million displaced and conflict-affected Palestinians. And we will have mechanisms in place so this aid reaches those in need - not Hamas or terrorist groups." said Biden, sharing the news on his social media platform 'X'.

Israel, unlike the terrorists, is a nation that upholds the basic dignity of every human life, according to Biden.

"When conflicts flare, you live by the law of war which sets us apart from the terrorists as we believe in the fundamental dignity of every human life," he said.

"The people of Gaza need food, water, medicine, and shelter," Biden remarked in reference to the requirements of those who reside in Gaza. "Today, I asked the Israeli cabinet...to agree to the delivery of life-saving humanitarian assistance to civilians in Gaza...and the aid should go to civilians, not to Hamas."

Israel has agreed to transfer humanitarian aid

Israel has agreed to transfer humanitarian aid from Egypt to Gaza, the US President added.

He further emphasised that, should Hamas divert or steal the money, "it will have demonstrated once again that they have no concern for the welfare of the Palestinian people..and it will stop the international community from being able to provide this aid."

Since the first day of the strike, Biden guaranteed that his administration has been in constant communication with Israel's leadership.

" We are going to make sure you have what you need to protect your people, to defend your nation. For decades, we have ensured Israel's qualitative military edge," he stated.

Additionally, he promised that he would ask the US Congress for an unprecedented support package for Israel's defence later this week.

"I am going to ask US Congress for unprecedented support package for Israel's defence. We are going to keep Iron Dome fully supplied...We move US military assets to the region, including positioning the USS Ford carrier strike group in the Eastern Mediterranean, with USS Eisenhower on the way to deter, defer further aggression against Israel and to prevent this conflict from spreading." Biden claimed.

Hamas does not represent the Palestinian people, US President Biden noted, adding that the majority of Palestinians are not members of the organisation. Families in Gaza who are completely innocent are used by Hamas as human shields. Furthermore, the Palestinian people are suffering significantly.

Biden denounced the assault on the Gaza hospital

Biden condemned the attack on the hospital in Gaza and expressed his fury and sadness over the significant number of lives lost the day before.

"Based on the information we have seen today, it appears as a result of a rocket fired by a terrorist group in Gaza. The United States unequivocally stands for the protection of civilian life during the conflict...," he continued.

Benjamin Netanyahu, the Israeli prime minister, received assurances from Biden earlier in the day about the US' enduring commitment for Israel. In light of recent terrorist assaults by Hamas, he emphasised the need to support Israel as it defends its citizens.

"In the wake of Hamas appalling terror assaults, brutal, inhuman...I want you to know you are not alone," Biden remarked.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu responded by denouncing the attack on the Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital in Gaza and stating, "We saw the cost of this terrible war crime yesterday when a rocket fired by Palestinian terrorists misfired and landed on a Palestinian hospital. The entire world was rightfully outraged but this outrage should be directed not at Israel but at the terrorists."

"We have asked them (civilians) to move to safer areas. We will continue to work with you Mr President (Biden) to ensure that the minimal requirements are met and we will continue to work together to get our hostages out," Israeli PM noted.
