According to TASS, a Russian news source, Pakistan has submitted an application to become a member of the BRICS Group of Nations Union in 2024. The story cited an interview conducted recently with Muhammad Khalid Jamali, Pakistan's recently appointed ambassador to Russia. When the League of Developed and Developing Nations (BRICS) was first established in 2010, its members were Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. The BRICS group resolved to extend invitations to six additional nations to join its alliance during its most recent summit, held in October in South Africa.

The following countries have received invitations to join BRICS: Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Ethiopia, Argentina, Iran, and the United Arab Emirates. The first day of 2024 will mark the start of their membership.

According to TASS, Pakistan's ambassador has stated that the country has already submitted an application to join BRICS. Jamali affirmed Pakistan's intention to join the organisation in 2024, with Russia serving as its chairman.

Pakistan is excited about joining the BRICS

“Pakistan would like to be part of this important organization and we are in the process of contacting member countries for extending support to Pakistan’s membership in general and the Russian Federation in particular,” the ambassador remarked.

Russia served as the group's chair for the last time in 2020. India gained the position in January 2021 and remained at the seat until December 2021. For India's BRICS Chairship, "BRICS@15: Intra BRICS Cooperation for Continuity, Consolidation and Consensus" was the topic and methodology.

Approximately 41% of the world's population, 24% of its GDP, and 16% of its commerce are represented by the five greatest developing nations that make up BRICS.

BRICS is set to grow in the future

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov stated in early October that BRICS intends to settle on a list of applicants for partner-state status ahead of the organization's forthcoming conference in Kazan, southwest Russia. In an earlier statement, Ryabkov said that growing the "circle of BRICS friends," notably in Latin America, will receive special attention while Russia serves as the BRICS group's chairman.

Chinese President Xi Jinping stated, "We should let more countries join the BRICS family to pool wisdom and efforts to make global governance more just and equitable." Pakistan's bid to join BRICS has not been officially reported, despite Muhammad Khalid Jamali, the country's ambassador, speaking with TASS.
